On a trip with Karen Wellman Roth and her husband Jerry   Around 48 yrs ago . we toured the Smokey Mts , taking the  circle craft drive  at Gattlinberg . At the time there were many craftsmen there.  We stopped by this persons shop and amazed by his skills. Karen bought a loy of hand carved  fruit and other items, and i bought this for mom.  It apparently was dropped and a little damaged  but i still love it and the memory of seeing it sit on moms window sill.   Looked up

Info about the woodcarver that sold this to us 


February 4, 1921 - January 8, 2015 

Resided in Sevierville, TN

John Buford Cowden, age 93 of Sevierville, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Sevier County Health Care Center.


He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Cowden learned to carve wood from his father who was also a woodcarver. He owned John Cowden Wood Carving Shop on Bird's Creek Road and he worked and carved wood for over 80 years.
