Mom’s cousin Florence Appel Duvick

I was treated to a wonderful memory of my grandmother, Florence Duvick, today.  Today being our church organist's birthday, her children and grandchildren had traveled to attend church today and help her celebrate.  As Cathy prepared to play the prelude, her grandkids clustered behind her in the organ alcove and attentively watched as their grandmother played.  I looked on with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye as I remembered the times in my childhood as we rushed up to the choir loft at our church in Sandwich, Illinois, and watched as Grandma finished playing the postlude.  If we were good, she would let us help her push in the stops on the big pipe organ when she finished.  Here she is playing on her own small organ in later years when she lived with my parents.  By Carol  Duvick Patten

Note from Cindy~

Years ago we stopped by her home with mom. Florence treated us to playing  “The Holy City” on her organ . Then she showed us her lovely quilts  !  I remember my favorite ones were called “Grandmother’s fan”. And “Dresden Plate”   ( she explained to us how they were made) . Just wondering  where they ended up , hopefully with her family. They were lovely!

Thx for sharing this precious photo. It is how I remember her 💕
