Hi Karen,

Thought I’d send you a little family genealogy and a few pictures.

I first got interested a little in our family genealogy while we lived in Seoul, South Korea in the mid 1970’s. This is a letter my mother sent to me on Feb 22, 1976 with info about part of the Schultz and Appel family.  Sue is our daughter who came back to the states in the fall of 1975 to start college.  Inez is one of my Dad’s sisters. Ed and Jack are 2 of my brothers.

John August Ferdinand Schultz is my great-grandfather and his wife was Kathryn Phillipine Miller.

Their children (that survived) were Will Schultz – he and his family moved to Minnesota in the early 1900’s and some family members still live near Fergus Falls , MN and operate a resort on Ten Mile Lake. Some of my cousins used to vacation there every summer. I was there once when I was about 11.

Emily Schultz married a Schoeneck and lived near Chicago.  Their son George and his wife Lil were often at my folks and Lil lived with them for several years after George died.

I have no recollection of Edward Schultz.

Louis Schultz is your grandfather?  Mom often talked about Uncle Lou and Aunt Gusty.  They lived on the farm directly south of the farm where I grew up.  Their son Frank and wife Irene lived there until the late 1940’s.  Their daughter Darlene and I were in the same class.  Also Raymond Schultz’s son Ron was in our class.

Ida Amelia Schultz Appel is my grandmother. Her husband was an alcoholic and died in 1912 when my mother was 10.  She is shown in 3 pictures above, 2 as a young woman and in the 1950’s darning socks.  She also lived my folks for many years and I have fond memories of her.

To give you a little background of me I have included pictures of me at various ages.  I graduated from the U of Illinois in 1955 and that was my graduation picture. I married Donna Jane Sherwin in 1956 and the picture by the windmill is at a farm I rented in 1960.  The picture taken on a porch was in Norway in 2005.  This was the last foreign trio we took as my wife’s Alzheimer was getting worse. The next year, 2006, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.

I farmed for a few years, but went to grad school from 1963-1970, getting my PhD in agricultural economics.  Spent 2 years in Washington, DC and then was at The Ohio State University, retiring 1n 1995.  Spent 2 years in Korea and 1 in Poland.  In 2006 we moved from Worthington, Ohio to Sylvania to be near our daughter Sue and family.  Donna spent the last 3 years in a care center and died Dec. 31, 2012.  We also have 2 sons, one lives in the Dallas TX area and one in Charlotte, NC.

My son Tim and his daughter have much of the family on Ancestry.com
