  • Helen Page I miss the old homeplace and all the happy moments with in the property. I remember collecting popsicle wrappers (out of gutters mainly) and sending them in for a snake ring with a green glass eye. That all came to a halt during the polio scare. Mom thought flys might be causing polio so we could no long collect popsicle wrappers, etc. for fear of getting polio. We had a neighbor toddler who died of polio. Then DDT came into use to kill flies; little did they know at that time what DDT would do to you. I miss the Christmas's at Mom and Dads house and my children do too.
    •  Helen Page Karen Wellman Roth Mom and Dad taught us values instead of placing material things first. Once when I was at a ladies meeting at Christmas time we were supposed to tell what our favorite toy was when gifted at Christmas. I couldn't remember a toy but thought about how I loved Christmas the way Mom and Dad did it. Toys were not the focal point, decorating, cookies, Christmas at home with our family, decorating the tree, etc. etc. When it came to my turn, all i could say...."we were poor and didn't know it. We had a wonderful family Christmas and I will always cherish the memories".
