Some more Lee Center history...
The old Lee Center Quarry photo by Don Butler and lies near his home ~Green Wing Road   . We  had lots of good memories here as kids. My folks home was made from stone  cut from here and  remainders of an old kiln sits in the forefront of this photo . A lime kiln is a kiln used for the calcination of limestone (calcium carbonate) to produce the form of lime called quicklime ( via heat ) . Quicklime, also known as calcium oxide , is a caustic alkaline substance. It has been used by humans for centuries for many things such as mortar, flux, treating corn, and in mixtures to waterproof boats. It has also been used to generate heat to cook food and heat water.  Today, quicklime is used in many industrial processes
I used to fish , ice skate, and swing from a rope  into this quarry. The water was clear then and has pretty much filled in  since that time .
