Fg fall

A drive through Franklin Grove Illinois..........fall time splendor. photos by Cindy Boyenga
This little stone house sits along the south side of Illinois Route 38 just west of Franklin Grove IL.  Built in 1847 by the Helmershausen brothers, who had arrived here on foot from the state of Maine, it predates the Chicago & Northwestern RR tracks, which are right behind it and had to be diverted around it when they were put in.  The home has never had electricity or running water, yet at one time housed a family of close to a dozen.  A crew performed some restorative work on the building in the 1990s, but, unfortunately, the house is once again suffering from severe structural and cosmetic failure.
