green bean recipies

Our mom made these German style beans ..as her mom did before her..we called them " Soury beans" . they have a sweet sour taste with bacon flavouring..very tasty and resembles  hot German potato salad, which she also made. The green beans are cooked then  added to the skillet of a tangy sauce and crumbled bacon. .I think I will try some of these this year for Thanksgiving plus the traditional green bean casserole we have.

Mom's German styled green beans
  • 3 strips bacon
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 - 16 oz. can whole green beans
  • 1 tbs. brown sugar
  • 1 tbs.  vinegar
Fry bacon in skillet until crisp. Remove bacon and crumble. Drain off all but 1 tbs. drippings. Add onion and brown slightly. Stir in cornstarch, salt and dry mustard. Drain beans, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Pour bean liquid into skillet. Cook, stirring until mixture boils. Blend in brown sugar and  vinegar. Add green beans and bacon and heat thoroughly. Very easy and delicious!"
