Amanda Wellman;s Quilt

One thing our church will have on display for 175th anniversary,  is a quilt that was started by my great grandmother, Amanda Wellman, when living at Lee Center .. She never got it finished but we believe it may have been intended for her grandsons Howard or /and Don Wellman (the first Don Wellman, dad’s brother) Their mother became ill and died at a young age from "consumption" which dad felt was a strep resp infection , and their grandma Amanda lived in their home along with sisters Bess, and Grace to help care for the younger  kids. . This was around 1911-12 . My dad was 14-15.yr. As far as we know from dated sports patches. It was a quilt in progress 1911-1943 . (Just the top and no backing. ) i loved seeing the fancy stitching used to quilt this. The baseball patch definitely helps know circa date.  (The St Louis Browns   And pitcher Williams  ..plus the Colgate University hockey player). Much remain a mystery but apparently 2or three generations Wellman ladies  worked on this during residence at Lee Center . BTW , their home was at same location Jackie and Bob Delhotal would build their home and farm , South of town. Howard Wellman Sr would later become Lee Center’s Post Master  and be a Chicago White Sox  fan
